Head, cassette, base and belt are the black post’s, so a layout drawn for one needs no recalculating for the other and the two clip together mid-run. What changes is the column: polished chrome returns whatever light the room already has, which is why it belongs in a stone lobby and why it has nothing to work with under a marquee on a grey afternoon. The belt stays black on both and that contrast is what keeps the lane legible from the far end of a hall.
