The post that moves people. A belt draws out of the head, clips into the next post and the whole run can be reshaped by picking a post up and putting it down somewhere else.
Five posts
Start with the belt, then the post under it.
The black post carries a black belt, a blue one or a red one; the polished post carries black, with blue or red on a second item. Colour is what a room notices first, so it is the decision worth making before the finish of the column holding it.

Disappears into a floor plan. The default for queues, perimeters and anything outdoors.

Is the line going to move?
A belt run folds into a switchback, opens a second lane and re-forms somewhere else in about a minute, because the belt retracts into the post and there is nothing to unclip and coil. A rope line is set once and stays where it was put. If the shape of the queue will change during the event, this is the group you want.
Does the run have to turn or branch?
The head is four-way: it holds its own belt and receives three more, so any post can be a corner, a T-junction or the closing point of a full enclosure. Nothing special is ordered for a turn, which is why a layout can be redrawn on site out of the posts already there.
Is anyone going to lean on it?
Neither of these is a barricade. A belt holds a line that people respect; it does not hold a crowd that pushes. Once pressure is part of the picture the answer is steel and the honest version of that answer is worth having before the doors open.
