Specifications
Each letter stands on its own.
Every letter carries its own back support, which is what stops a four-foot face tipping when somebody leans in for a photograph. The board is foam with a high bearing capacity, so it holds its shape rather than bowing. Lighting is a battery string with plastic bulbs in warm white — no outlet, no extension lead and nothing taped across a floor.

Six things worth four feet of letter.
A company name at a launch
The brand standing at full height behind the people talking about it. Every photograph taken in that half of the room carries the name without anybody being asked to pose with a sign.
A milestone year
Numbers rent the same way letters do, so an anniversary or a founding year is four characters of the same item rather than a different product.
A photo wall
Letters behind a booth give the shot a subject that is not the venue. Warm white reads well on camera because it does not fight the skin tones the way a cold LED does.
A room with no power where you want it
Batteries are the reason these go in the middle of a floor, in a marquee or up a staircase. Nothing else lit on this site can stand somewhere without a cable reaching it.
An entrance
A word at the door tells arriving guests they are in the right place before a single person has to greet them. That is usually two or three characters, not a sentence.
A holiday or seasonal party
Short words carry a room. The count is the thing to settle early: each letter is its own rental, so the word length is the quantity.
What usually stands in front of them
Letters make a background. Something has to point at it.
A lit word is a backdrop that guests will photograph badly on their own phones. A mirror booth in front of it gets the exposure right every time, handles a group without an enclosure to squeeze into and shares the result before anybody leaves.
