The compromise most events make is sitting a five-year-old on a standard folding chair, which produces a child whose feet do not reach the floor and who is out of the seat within a minute.

Specifications
Child scale, with nothing a child can undo.
An 11-inch seat under a 21-inch overall height, sized for roughly three to eight years. It is moulded from HDPE in a single piece, with a waterproof, non-porous surface that takes paint, juice and modelling clay off with a wipe rather than staining.

Where the guests are small
Six events that need a second seat height.
Corporate family days
Adults in one seating area and children in another, twenty feet apart. Two chair heights is what makes those two areas read as two areas rather than as an overflow.
Kids’ zones at festivals
A fenced corner with something to do in it. The chairs live outdoors all day, get rained on and wipe clean, which is the reason for a moulded shell rather than an upholstered one.
Craft and activity tables
Where the seat height decides whether a child can actually reach the work at all. This one sits at eleven inches.
School and daycare events
Concerts, open evenings and sports days that need more seating than the building owns for one afternoon. They stack, so they go back into a store cupboard rather than a store room.
Costumed-character photographs
The photograph with the costumed character is taken at the child’s eye level or it is not taken. A chair at the right height is what puts everybody in the same frame.
Waiting areas at community events
Somewhere for a child to sit that is not a parent’s lap or the floor. The cut-out handle in the back turns out to be something children use themselves to move their own seat.
Ordered with them
A family day is usually outdoors.
The chairs go under something. On an open field that means a canopy over the activity area rather than over the food, which is where the cover usually ends up if nobody plans it.
