Sixteen by thirty-two is not a rounder number than the squares either side of it — it is a different job. A company picnic or a market row wants a corridor: food along one flank, tables along the other, people moving down the middle. Put the same 512 square feet into a square and the queue for the buffet ends up cutting through the seating.

If the shape is wrong
A square four hundred feet is the other way to do this.
Thirty-two feet of covered length is what this size is for. If what you are laying out is a block with circulation on all four sides rather than a corridor, the 20 × 20 is the cleaner footprint for it: 400 sq ft against 512, about 40 at banquet tables against 40 to 48 here, plus a rounds count the manufacturer actually charts.
