What it is good at

Six places the line has to be red.

  • Ticketed doors with more than one lane

Colour is the fastest instruction there is. A red belt on the accredited lane beside black on general entry sorts a crowd before anyone reads a sign.

  • Rooms where nothing may be touched

Around a vehicle on a plinth or a case of product, a red line carries the meaning a black one leaves to a steward to explain.

  • Brand activations built in red

Where the palette is set months before the build, the equipment either belongs in the photographs or is cropped out of them.

  • Retail launches and sale mornings

A queue that forms before the doors open needs a shape from the first person to arrive, in a colour readable from the far end of a shopping centre.

  • Sports and club hospitality

Where a club plays in red, matching the entrance to the shirt is the cheapest piece of dressing in the building.

  • Beside a red carpet runner

The runner draws the walk, the belt holds the edge of it. Two red items on one order beat a red carpet fenced by black posts.

Worth adding at the head

A red belt closes a line. It cannot explain one.

Red reads as stop from across a room, which is why it ends up over the gaps nobody should walk through. What it cannot say is why the gap is closed or where the open one is. The sign frame clamps to the collar at the top of a post and carries an 8.5 × 11 in print you supply. One at each closed gap is usually the whole order.
