Fitted and draped
Two treatments, decided by the table.
Three of these grip the table. The fabric is a polyester and spandex blend with elasticated pockets sewn into the corners, so it goes over the top, hooks under the four legs and stays there. It covers the legs as well as the top, which is what stops a banquet table looking like one. It is also the treatment that holds outdoors because the cloth is attached at four points.
The fourth hangs. A round dinner table has no corners to hook and no frame worth hiding, so the round cloth is a flat 90-inch circle laid over the top and left to fall. It goes on in one movement, comes off the same way between sittings, then does not care how many chairs get pulled up to it.
The 6 ft cloth is for the single table a guest walks up to — registration, gifts, a cake. The 8 ft is for runs, where a buffet line or a head table is several tables end to end and they have to match each other as well as the room. The cocktail cover goes to the floor on a bar-height stem. The round cloth stops short of it: 90 inches over a 48-inch top leaves a 21-inch drop, which clears the frame without pooling.
