Where a console beats a lawn game
Six rooms where a Wii gets switched on.
Family days indoors
When the weather takes the lawn games off the table, bowling on a screen keeps the children and the parents in one room.
Office parties
A tennis rally between two departments draws a crowd faster than anything on a buffet table.
Kids’ birthdays
Motion control means a child swings the controller the way they would swing a bat or a racket.
Small rooms
The console fits on a shelf or a TV stand and weighs under 4 lb, so it moves between rooms with no fuss.
Retro nights
Guests who owned one recognise it at once, which is half of why they pick up the controller.
Lounges and breakout rooms
Each player builds a Mii, a cartoon version of themselves, so the scoreboard has faces on it rather than player numbers.
For the youngest players
Seats sized for the front row.
At a children’s party the floor in front of the screen fills first. The children’s chair is moulded in one piece with rounded edges and a low seat, so the queue for the next game can sit down while it waits.
